Katey Campbell- Equine Functional Osteopath
Meet Katey, an Equine Osteopath, educator, and healer devoted to advancing the well-being of equines, canines, and their human partners.
With a postgraduate diploma in Equine Functional Osteopathy from Animal Osteopathy International in the UK, Katey brings a wealth of knowledge and specialized training to her practice. She has also studied the Masterson Method and holds a certificate in equine farriery and hoof care, complemented by extensive expertise in anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics.
With over a decade of hands-on experience, Katey has honed her skills to help animals achieve optimal health, functioning, and vitality. Her gentle, hands-on palpation and manipulation techniques work to assess, address, and release pain and restrictions in the horse's bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, and tissues. By enhancing the free flow of bodily fluids and harmonizing bodily systems, she promotes natural healing and functional balance.
Katey’s specialty lies in addressing complex cases, often collaborating with a horse's wellness team. Her dedication goes beyond routine care; it’s a commitment to seeing each horse reach its fullest potential in body, mind, and spirit. Compassionate and highly skilled, Katey has become a trusted ally for those seeking the highest standard of care for their equine companions.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a holistic approach to healthcare and views the animal’s body as a whole, rather than just focusing on individual parts. It involves an understanding of the root problems and their causes and how they are affected by the internal & external environments. It is in part a manual therapy that aims to improve the mobility and function of the horse’s skeleton, muscles, ligaments, joints and organs – collectively known as the musculoskeletal system. Osteopaths also have an in depth knowledge that enables them to determine and address imbalances, both internal and environmental. By correcting these we aim to bring balance to the body, mind, and spirit as a whole to achieve optimal health.
Osteopathy looks at the horse as a whole; psychological, physiological, and mechanical factors are considered, as well as how they are affected by the equine's internal and external environments. Osteopaths use gentle hands-on palpation and manipulation to assess, address, and release pain and restrictions in bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, and tissues, so that bodily fluids can flow freely and all the bodily systems can work effectively together. This in turn allows for optimal health, functioning and vitality. Sessions include a complete orthopedic and body assessment, gait analysis, and case history to formulate a specific session plan for your horse. Modalities used are osteopathic technique, mobilizations, soft tissue techniques (massage, fascial release and stretching), as well as cranial, and visceral techniques.
